Uxmal, one of the most known sites in the Yucatan means ‘That which was built three times’ and is recognized as a World Heritage Site. It is located 78 kilometres south of Merida and is easily accessed along good highways. The buildings and their facades are beautifully decorated with stone filagree. The intricate stonework is truly incredible. The structures are an expression of Puuc architecture and is unique to the Yucatan. We are fortunate that this area gives us the opportunity to explore this incredible chapter in human history and discover the unique Maya culture. Uxmal is a vast Mayan ruin with much of it still uncovered. Guides are on site and are eager to share their wealth of information about the history of Uxmal. To experience Uxmal it is best to hire a guide and afterwards wander through the area once again at your own pace. There are restaurants near the ruin or in the village of Santa Elena that offer superb food at reasonable prices. Uxmal has a night show presentation that is definitely worth seeing.
